Why fractional integrators fall short of full-time impact
Executive overview
An Integrator executes the company vision, runs day-to-day operations, and serves as the glue between the Visionary and the rest of the leadership team. When a company isn't ready for a full-time Integrator, it often turns to a fractional one.
Fractional Integrators can work, but they deliver a lighter version of the role. The business runs more smoothly, but rarely reaches its full potential. The goal should always be to move toward a full-time Integrator.
A fractional or multi-seat Integrator is a temporary bridge, not a destination.
What an Integrator actually does
- Executes company vision and harmonises the three major business functions
- Runs the leadership team's weekly Level 10 meetings
- Acts as tiebreaker during leadership discussions
- Vets the Visionary's ideas and converts priorities into actionable steps
- Champions EOS adoption across the organisation
Why fractional falls short
- Fractional is defined by engagement level, not just hours
- A lighter version of the role means the business won't reach full potential
- Trust between Visionary and Integrator is harder to build part-time
- Without trust, the Visionary struggles to delegate — staying stuck in Integrator tasks
- Supporting multiple organisations compounds the problem further
The multi-seat trap
- An Integrator wearing several leadership hats is effectively doing multiple jobs
- Sitting in multiple accountability chart seats leads to underperformance across all of them
- The Integrator seat is typically the one that suffers most
The goal
- Fractional Integrators must still fully engage all Integrator responsibilities
- Any fractional or multi-seat arrangement limits the leadership team's full power
- Always work toward placing someone in the Integrator seat full-time
