Finding sites likely to link to you using Ahrefs Link Intersect

Executive overview

Competitors attract links you should be getting too. Sites that link to multiple competitors but not you are the highest-probability link targets — they've already shown interest in your category.

The Link Intersect tool in Ahrefs surfaces these gaps automatically. Enter your competitors' URLs, add your own site as the exclusion, and get a prioritised list of outreach targets.

If a site links to all your competitors but not you, it almost certainly just doesn't know you exist yet.

Finding intersect targets

• Open Ahrefs Link Intersect under the Labs menu
• Enter competitor URLs as targets; add your own site as the exclusion
• Choose domain-level for broad sites; URL-level for specific pages (e.g. WordPress plugin pages)
• The report shows how many backlinks each site sends to each competitor

Reading and acting on results

• Click expand on any result to see the exact linking page
• For editorial mentions, find the author's contact info and pitch your product for inclusion
• For community Q&A pages, create a free account and post a reply with your link
• Start with "all targets" mode; switch to "any targets" to widen the list when results are thin
• The intersect column shows which competitors each site links to — gaps are marked "not available"
