Six SaaS ideas worth building in underserved niches
Executive overview
Most SaaS niches still have room for a well-executed tool with good UX. Existing solutions in these spaces tend to have poor usability, move upmarket, or simply don't exist yet. Validate with real buyers before building — these are starting points, not guarantees.
The fastest path to a SaaS idea is finding where people are using Excel, no-code tools, or four tools duct-taped together to solve a recurring problem.
The six ideas
- Podcast workflow management — No dedicated tool exists for podcast production project management. Most shows cobble together Airtable, Dropbox, Trello, Notion, and email. One unified tool could own this workflow.
- Applicant tracking for accelerators and universities — Existing tools (e.g. Submittable) have poor UX, buggy filtering, and weak reporting. A purpose-built tool with good UX could command similar price points and win.
- Pricing pages as a service — A micro-SaaS that hooks into Stripe and handles split testing, pricing grids, and billing logic for SaaS founders. Platform risk exists (Stripe could build this), but opportunity is real now.
- Zapier for vertical niches — Medical, legal, construction, architecture, interior design — these sectors have tools not integrated into Zapier because general usage is too low to justify it. Niche expertise is the moat.
- Intercom/Drift competitor at lower price points — Both tools have moved upmarket. The $50–$300/month range is underserved for chat, support, and messaging. Competitive space; better suited for stair-stepped founders.
- Investor update and reporting dashboard — Venture funds and accelerators need to collect startup updates, consolidate fund performance, and report to LPs. No dedicated tool exists; everyone is building custom or cobbling it together.
Where to find more ideas
- Watch for businesses using Excel on a recurring basis — almost always a SaaS opportunity
- Explore the edges of no-code tooling — find where workflows break or require extra tooling
- Browse B2B SaaS marketplaces (68 listed in the show notes) and check whether successful apps in one marketplace exist in competing ones
