Seven harsh truths every entrepreneur needs to hear

Most entrepreneurs fail not because their product is bad, but because they never learn to build an audience or sell. The work that feels productive — refining the product, tweaking the brand, writing blog posts — is often a substitute for the one thing that actually matters: getting customers.

Build the audience first, fix everything else second.

The seven truths

  1. No audience, no business. Everything is downstream from lead generation. Build the audience first, then build what it wants — not the other way around.
  2. Technology will either boost you or bury you. AI is a general-purpose shift comparable to the industrial revolution. Be on the creation side, not the consumption side.
  3. You are a salesperson. Drop the word "entrepreneur." Founders must sell to customers, investors, and future team members constantly. Avoiding this — tinkering with blogs or social content instead of calling people — is ABS (Anything But Sales).
  4. Nobody cares about your business brand. They Google you, not your company. Cristiano Ronaldo has 600 million followers; his clubs don't. Personal brand drives trust far more than business brand.
  5. You get zero points for trying. A bridge that is 90% built is zero bridges. Only market-facing assets that are ready to sell count. Finish the half-dozen unfinished bridges you already have.
  6. You cannot hire the right people yet. Top talent at established companies won't leave for an early-stage startup. Learn to work with inexperienced or flexible people and develop them — the right hires come later.
  7. You cannot figure this out alone. Trial and error in business is as reckless as reinventing aviation from scratch. Find a mentor or community that can show you the proven sequence, step by step.
