Four guest blogging hacks to get more links in less time

Most guest bloggers waste time waiting on slow replies and leave link-building value on the table. Pitching more blogs than you can handle, and linking strategically within posts, solves both problems.

Create demand for your articles, then use every link slot to compound your SEO gains.

Pitch volume and queue management

  • Send ideas to 10–15 blogs before you have capacity to write for all of them.
  • Stagger pitches over several days rather than sending all at once.
  • When a blog is slow to reply, use the delay as leverage: tell them the idea was taken, but offer something new soon.
  • Goal: a queue of bloggers waiting on you, not the other way around.

Linking strategy within guest posts

  • Include up to two self-promotional links per article; more risks annoying the editor and losing the placement.
  • Link to your other guest posts, not just your own domain — useful when a blog owner is sensitive to direct self-promotion.
  • Linking to a page that links to you passes PageRank indirectly through that chain.
  • Notify the other blog owner when you link to their content — they often reciprocate.

Targeting unlinked domains

  • Unique linking domains correlate strongly with rankings; each new domain adds more value than a repeat from an existing one.
  • Prioritise blogs that have never linked to your site.
  • In Ahrefs Content Explorer, use "Highlight Unlinked Domains" to filter a prospecting list to new domains only, then export with the "Export Only Highlighted" checkbox.
  • To check a single blog manually, search for its domain in the Referring Domains report for your site.
  • Write a second or third post for the same blog only if it is a high-quality site or you have finished articles with nowhere to publish.
