Five rules for visionaries and integrators to work together

Entrepreneurial businesses have two distinct leader types: visionaries (big-picture idea generators) and integrators (execution-focused implementers). Their wiring naturally creates friction. Without a structure, that friction damages the business.

The Five Rules, from the EOS framework, convert that friction into productive energy — what EOS calls "rocket fuel."

When visionaries and integrators follow these five rules, the duo becomes the most powerful force in the business.

The five rules

1. Stay on the same page — No surprises, no blind sides. The pair presents a united front; they do not fight in front of the leadership team.
2. No end runs — Team members cannot bypass the integrator to get decisions from the visionary. The visionary also cannot go around the integrator into the org unprompted.
3. Integrator is the tiebreaker — When the leadership team is stuck, the visionary trusts the integrator to make the call for the greater good.
4. Owners operate from an employee mindset — Nobody plays the "owner card" or claims a different set of rules based on title.
5. Mutual respect — The visionary does not look down on the integrator. The integrator holds their ground and is not bulldozed.
