How to score your company culture using the Culture Checkup
Executive overview
Many companies don't know where their culture actually stands. The Culture Checkup gives you two scores — intentionality and healthy — and plots them on a 2x2 grid to identify your culture type.
All progress starts by telling the truth about where you are today.
The two scoring dimensions
- Intentionality: do you have systems and processes in place to build culture deliberately?
- Healthy: do you care for people and foster openness, honesty, and vulnerability?
- Each dimension scores 1–10; plot both to find your quadrant
The four culture quadrants
- High intentionality, low healthy → command and control culture
- High healthy, low intentionality → happy accident culture
- Low on both → disorganised and at-risk
- High on both → the target: intentional and healthy
Using your result
- Identify your current quadrant honestly before trying to improve
- From command and control: focus on caring for people and building openness
- From happy accident: add systems and processes to make culture repeatable
- Small moves toward the adjacent quadrant are the right starting point
