How to build and sell AI-powered online services from scratch

Executive overview

Most people delay starting a service business because they believe they need more time, more skill, or a perfect offer. They don't. The only three things that matter are finding leads, booking calls, and delivering a result.

AI has collapsed the time cost of all three. Outreach, prospecting, website building, and parts of service delivery can now be automated with tools available today.

The real skill that earns money is selling — not designing, coding, or editing.

The seven in-demand services

  1. AI implementation — install AI tools and workflows for businesses; $3k–$10k upfront + $1k–$3k/month retainer; best for local service businesses (law firms, med spas, financial advisors)
  2. UGC (user-generated content) — short-form video for brands filmed on your phone; ~$1 per 1k views, scaling to $1k–$5k/month retainers once proven
  3. Website building — rebuild bad websites with Claude Code, then pitch the finished site; $1k–$5k per project; target local and home-service businesses
  4. App / software development — build SaaS tools or internal apps using AI code tools; $6k+/month recurring; no coding background required, but design taste matters
  5. AI video creation — produce commercials and brand videos using tools like VO3 and Kling; $500–$3k entry-level, up to $25k for polished brand work
  6. Paid ads — create and run Meta/TikTok/Google ads; $1k–$5k/month per client; ties income directly to client revenue
  7. Clipping — cut long-form content into short-form clips; earn per view via content reward platforms, or build a clipping agency taking 30% of campaign budgets

Positioning your offer

  • Every offer needs a transformation statement: "I help [who] achieve [result] through [method]."
  • The most common mistake is targeting too broadly — "I help businesses grow" is not an offer.
  • Your advantage is domain knowledge: pick a niche you already understand (industry, hobby, community).
  • Businesses pay for results, not services — always frame around the outcome, not the task.
  • Expect to iterate: one founder spent 32 days and 18 sales calls pivoting from pharma to financial advisors to 401k specialists before landing his first $2k/month client.

Setting up the business

  • Use a platform like WAP to accept payment in minutes — create a checkout link, not a complex funnel.
  • Set a price ($1k–$3k to start) and create the checkout link before worrying about branding or a full website.
  • Set up Claude desktop app with the Co-Work and Chrome extension; create a project with your transformation statement as the system prompt — this becomes the AI's operating context for your business.

Finding leads with AI

  • Identify your target, the platform they use, and the specific signal that shows they need your service (bad website, no short-form content, running poor ads).
  • Create a lead tracking sheet with fields: name, business, platform, contact info, status.
  • Use Claude Co-Work to build a prospecting skill (a reusable .md instruction set) and a scheduled task that finds 25 new leads daily and adds them to the sheet automatically.

Outreach

  • Write an outreach message focused on the outcome: "I can help you get X result without Y cost — worth a quick chat?"
  • Create an outreach skill so Claude generates personalized messages matching your voice.
  • Use the Claude Chrome extension to automate sending; limit to ~25 messages/day to avoid platform risk.
  • Outreach is a volume game — 25–50 messages per day is the target.

Booking and running sales calls

  • When someone responds with interest, move them to a call immediately; don't try to sell over text.
  • Use Calendly (free tier) with a Google Meet integration; embed a custom invitee form to pre-qualify leads.
  • Sales call structure: build rapport → ask about their problem → present your service tied to their outcome → state price confidently and stop talking → handle objections by returning to the result.
  • First one or two clients: offer a discount or free work to get a case study; proof removes uncertainty faster than any pitch.

Building a professional profile and website

  • A credible profile needs: a real photo or logo, a one-line bio stating what you do, and a link to your site.
  • Build the website with Claude Code using a brand kit from Canva to control fonts and colors.
  • Site structure: headline → sub-headline → book-a-call button → short explainer video → client logos → case studies → how-it-works → embedded Calendly.
  • Host on Vercel (free), connect a custom domain; takes under five minutes with Claude guiding each step.
  • Do not spend weeks perfecting the site — outreach should start before the site is live.

Case studies and social proof

  • Case studies are the primary trust signal for service businesses; without them, skeptical leads will ghost.
  • Get the first case study by doing initial work for free or discounted.
  • Format: what was their problem → how you solved it → the result (views, leads, revenue, followers).
  • Add case studies to the website, social profiles, and outreach messages.
  • Create short content (Loom, TikTok, Twitter) walking through results — this builds inbound over time.

Delivering the service and scaling

  • Onboarding sets the tone: collect all assets and logins upfront, set a clear week-by-week timeline.
  • Clients care only about the outcome — not the tools, time, or process behind it.
  • After delivering a result, always ask for a referral; happy clients know other buyers.
  • Referrals are the highest-conversion lead type — they arrive with pre-built trust.
  • One result → case study → content → inbound leads → less outbound needed over time.
