Neil Patel's three-rule social media strategy for leads and sales
Executive overview
Most social media advice optimises for follower growth. Follower count is a vanity metric — what matters is leads and sales. Three rules, applied consistently, drive that outcome regardless of algorithm changes.
Build brand evangelists by genuinely helping people, post daily on-topic content, and measure success by revenue — not reach.
The three rules
- Post consistently — daily at minimum, up to three times per day; volume increases the chance of hits and each miss teaches you what to cut
- Target your ideal customer, not a broad audience — content that attracts followers but not buyers is wasted effort
- Genuinely help people first — caring without expectation builds brand evangelists who promote you and generate the right leads
Measuring what matters
- YouTube is NP Digital's third-largest client acquisition channel — that is the benchmark
- High-view "life lesson" content drives no revenue; low-view marketing content does
- Follower count is never the goal; money in the bank is
