EOS framework: vision, people, and traction as competitive advantage
Executive overview
Vision without the right people stalls. People without traction produce hallucination, not results. EOS binds all three into a shared operating language for entrepreneurial teams.
The Vision/Traction Organizer (VTO) is a two-page framework answering eight questions that clarify where a business is going and how it will get there.
Vision is only as strong as the people who carry it.
The three components that make EOS work
- Vision sets direction — without it, people perish; with it, discipline becomes a competitive advantage
- People must be right-person, right-seat at 100%, not 80% — one misaligned person can rot the culture
- Traction converts vision into forward momentum; without it, vision is hallucination
Hiring for values alignment
- Lead every candidate conversation with a core values speech
- Make values non-negotiable upfront — if they're not on board, move past them
- Culture is built or eroded at the hiring stage, not after onboarding
Using the VTO in practice
- Answer the eight VTO questions to produce a two-page vision and plan
- Go one level deeper on each answer to sharpen competitive advantage
- Revisit core values regularly: are they the right ones, and are they being lived?
