Running EOS inside SmartSuite without dedicated EOS software
Executive overview
Dedicated EOS tools like 90.io and EOS 1 create a silo: management tracks rocks and scorecards in one tool while the team works in another. Nothing connects. The result is manual data re-entry and low adoption.
SmartSuite solves this by hosting both EOS administration and day-to-day task management in the same networked database. Every EOS element — VTO, 90-day rocks, Level 10 agendas, IDS issues, scorecards — links directly to the work being done.
Run EOS where your team already works, and the administration friction disappears.
The silo problem with dedicated EOS software
- 90.io and EOS 1 sit separate from work management tools
- Only management uses EOS software; the team uses different tools
- No live connection between operating system data and actual tasks
- Result: manual copy-paste, duplicate entry, low adoption
SmartSuite EOS template: key areas
The built-in EOS Program template covers all core EOS components out of the box:
- VTO (Vision and Traction Organizer) — each record is one planning period; core values stored as nested sub-items; all standard EOS prompts pre-populate on every new VTO
- One-year plans — company-wide and departmental records; attachments for focus themes, budget, and roles
- 90-day plans — one record per quarter; linked records pull live scorecard and rocks data into the summary view
- Level 10 meetings — one record per meeting; agenda pre-populated with standard L10 sections; facilitator, note-taker, and score fields built in
- IDS (Identify, Discuss, Solve) — issues logged as records; linked directly to the meeting agenda so they appear live without re-entry
- Rocks — grouped by quarter and type (company vs. departmental); spotlight formatting flags off-track items in red; linkable to actual tasks
- Scorecard — weekly or monthly check-ins per metric; manual status entry per week; connected to IDS via linked records
How linked records replace manual data entry
- Issues created anywhere in SmartSuite attach to the relevant L10 agenda with two clicks
- Rocks link to tasks so every task shows which rock and VTO goal it serves
- Scorecard entries feed into 90-day plan summaries automatically
- No copy-paste: data lives once and surfaces everywhere it's needed
Recommended expansions beyond the base template
- Dashboards — visualise rock completion, revenue goals, and project progress from data already tracked
- Automations — schedule weekly digests (e.g. Monday 8 a.m. email to CEO with rocks status) to replace manual reporting
- Task links on rocks — add a linked-record field on rocks pointing to the task management area; team members see the big-picture connection on every task
