Nine essential Chrome extensions for everyday SEO work
Executive overview
Too many Chrome extensions slow your browser without adding value. Nine extensions cover the four core SEO categories: link building, keyword research, on-page SEO, and technical SEO.
Pick one or two extensions per category rather than installing everything available.
Link building extensions
- Hunter finds email addresses for a domain or a named individual directly from the browser.
- Link Clump opens, copies, or bookmarks multiple links at once — useful for vetting link prospects in bulk.
- Hold Z to open links in new tabs; hold X to copy URLs for batch analysis.
- NoFollow outlines all nofollow links on a page — helps identify whether a guest post opportunity will deliver link equity.
Keyword research extensions
- Ahrefs SEO Toolbar surfaces keyword metrics (volume, CPC, difficulty), estimated traffic, and backlink counts directly in Google SERPs.
- Clicking any metric opens the corresponding Ahrefs report for deeper analysis.
- Includes free features: broken link checker and on-page analysis tool (no paid account required).
- Keyword Surfer (by Surfer SEO) shows global and country-level search volumes plus keyword ideas in a sidebar.
- Traffic and backlink estimates from Keyword Surfer appear understated; treat them as directional only.
On-page SEO
- SEO Minion runs quick on-page spot checks: title, meta description, canonical URL, MetaRobots, headings, open graph, and Twitter tags.
- Also highlights all links, checks for broken links, and surfaces hreflang tags.
- The extension icon shows redirect warnings (e.g. "REDIR") and lists all redirect hops.
Page speed and technical SEO
- Lighthouse (Google) generates scored reports across Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, SEO, and PWA, with specific improvement suggestions.
- Uses the same underlying engine as PageSpeed Insights.
- Page Load Time shows the total load time in the extensions bar and a breakdown of where time was spent.
- Window Resizer resizes the browser to preset device resolutions (iPhone, iPad, etc.) for quick mobile-friendliness testing.
