Simplify your life: happiness comes from health and people, not money
Executive overview
Fame and money don't produce happiness — people who reach both often aren't happy. Simplicity does. Keep family healthy; treat everything else, including career, as secondary.
The only people who believe money unlocks happiness are those who haven't seen it at scale.
Money and happiness
- Happiness and the health of your circle are the only things that matter; professional success is secondary
- People who "win" by conventional measures are often unhappy
- Losing something worse than money — a parent, a child — exposes what actually matters
- Growing up with very little and staying happy proved, early on, that money wasn't the answer
- People who've tasted luxury and lost it suffer more than those who never had it
Patience and shortcuts
- Young people expecting to be millionaires at 27 are setting themselves up to cut corners
- Frantic, shortcut-driven thinking is the reason people don't build lasting wealth
- Patience is the underlying trait that separates those who accumulate from those who don't
Parenting and fear
- The only real, constant worry worth carrying is the health of your children
- Media has made modern parents scared — but statistically, it has never been safer to be a child in America
- What you look for is what you'll find: seek negativity and you'll see it; seek positivity and it's there too
The value of elders
- Spend time with 70–90 year olds who aren't your own grandparents to get unfiltered wisdom
- Society has moved from placing elders on a pedestal to chasing youth — that's the wrong direction
- We've become more insular, less family- and neighbour-oriented, more individually focused
- That shift toward "me me me" culture is a driver of unhappiness
Finding the middle
- Life is not red or blue — the answer is purple; find the middle ground
- Look for positivity actively; it exists in equal measure to the negativity being amplified
